True Overall makes more sense once you stop reading the number on a card as the whole story. A 99 can be a brilliant shortstop, an ordinary corner outfielder, or something in between, depending on how its attributes fit the position. If you are building a Diamond Dynasty lineup and deciding where to spend your MLB 26 stubs, this extra layer gives you a better starting point. It is not a promise that a player will dominate every game. It is a way to see what the card is actually built to do.

Why the Position Changes the Number

The formula does not treat every attribute equally. That is the part many players miss. A shortstop gains more from range, arm strength, reaction, and speed than a designated hitter does. A corner bat, meanwhile, can carry a lineup through contact and power even if the glove looks basic. True Overall applies those different priorities, so the same card may look excellent at one spot and less convincing at another. You will notice this quickly when moving a player between a primary and secondary position. The displayed overall might stay familiar, but the underlying value can shift quite a bit.

Reading Beyond the 99 Mark

The regular rating screen compresses elite cards into the same top number. True Overall opens that number up. Some attributes can sit above 99, and certain calculations may rise beyond 125 when the formula rewards them. That does not mean a 130-rated hitter automatically has better results than everyone else. It simply shows where the card has unusual depth. Think of it as a scouting report for the ceiling, not a forecast for every swing, pitch, or defensive animation. Small details still matter, especially online.

A Quick Position Comparison

PositionAttributes worth checkingWhat the rating can reveal
ShortstopFielding, reaction, speed, armWhether the card stays reliable in the middle infield
Corner outfieldContact, power, fieldingHow much offensive value offsets limited range
Designated hitterContact, power, visionWhether the bat earns a lineup spot without defensive value
Use the comparison as a checklist rather than a verdict. When two endgame cards both show 99, compare their True Overall scores, then look at the individual attributes behind the gap. One may have stronger power against a certain side, while the other offers better balance and more dependable defence. The better choice depends on your lineup, stadium, and hitting approach.

Using It Without Losing Your Own Judgment

True Overall is most helpful before you lock in a lineup. Check a card at its main position, test its secondary spots, and compare it with players you already use. Then play a few games. A high paper rating cannot account for your timing, swing preference, pitching style, or comfort with an awkward stance. Community opinion changes fast, too. Treat the number as a clear stat-based guide, not a replacement for experience. That approach helps you spend cheap MLB Stubs with a plan while leaving room for the players you actually hit well with.
