I decided to test a few methods for displaying design projects online. The first platform I tried had a clunky interface that slowed everything down. The outcome was a bunch of empty views and no useful feedback. What became clear is that random collections don't impress experienced viewers.
A thorough breakdown of portfolio strategies appears in https://dribbble.com/.
When I narrowed down to only finished projects the response was night and day. Explaining the reasoning behind design decisions made a huge difference for viewers. What did not work was trying to include everything I had ever made. Removing the weak ones was hard at first but it instantly improved the impression.
Getting an outside perspective from peers saved me from keeping mediocre work. What they emphasized was the need for storytelling around each piece. That feedback turned my portfolio from a gallery into a narrative.
The final setup shows only eight projects but each one tells a complete story. I stopped chasing fancy effects and focused instead on clarity. The quickest win I know is removing anything that does not excite you anymore.
